International Boating & Sailing Passport
Welcome to the international standard for recreational yachting. IYT offers modular training courses from absolute beginner to Yachtmaster Ocean. As a candidate progresses through the IYT modular training program and a module has been completed, the school principal will sign the page. At the end of a “course” which is made up of “modules” the school principal will apply a gold seal. For example, a candidate can take modules 1-5 in Turkey and modules 6-11 in Thailand which completes all training for the IYT “International Crew Certificate”. (See module details below).
Modules 1 – 11 International Crew Course/Assessment/Certificate
These modules, both theory and practical, give a basic understanding of the knowledge that is required to be an active crew member on board a yacht either power or sail.
Module 12 VHF-SRC Marine Communications (Short Range Certificate)
Every crew member needs to know how to operate a marine radio. This course covers general rules for the use and operation of VHF-SRC radios, what to do in the case of an emergency and an introduction to other marine communications equipment. Radio operator qualifications from a recognized issuing authority will be accepted in lieu of this module.
Modules 13 – 25 International Flotilla and Bareboat Skipper Course/Assessment/Certificate
The “depth of knowledge” required for the theory portion of the International Flotilla Skipper Certificate is the same as required for the International Bareboat Skipper Certificate. Candidates must have logged over 200 miles and 10 days at sea by the end of the course in order to obtain the International Bareboat Skipper Certificate of Competency. The school principal or instructor will order the appropriate certificate for your level of experience.
Module 26 Canadian Boating Requirements
The ICC issued by IYT has been approved by Transport Canada so that holders of the ICC (Canadian Edition) will not require a Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) in Canada provided the section on “Canadian Boating Requirements” has been completed. As there are other elements contained within modules 1 – 25 required by Transport Canada in order for the IYT ICC to be approved in lieu of the PCOC, holders of a current IYT ICC cannot upgrade to the Canadian Edition by simply completing module 26 but must resit the entire theory course and examination.
