Upgrade Your School / Add Courses

IYT makes it simple to expand your school’s approvals, whether you want to add courses, vessel types, or upgrade from recreational to professional training.

Adding Courses

Example: Your school is approved up to International Bareboat Skipper Sail and you wish to offer Yachtmaster Offshore Sail.

Steps:

  • Complete the school application again.
  • IYT will review:
    • Facilities and vessels to ensure they are suitable for the course.
    • Instructor qualifications.

If your instructors are already IYT certified, the school may be approved for the same level they are qualified to teach.

Adding Vessel Types

Example: Your school is approved for International Bareboat Skipper Sail and you wish to add Power.

Steps:

  • Email [email protected] with:
    • Vessel photographs and registration (if you are the owner).
    • Instructor names and certification status.

If instructors are IYT certified for the requested level and vessel type, the school may be approved. If not, instructors must complete an application for certification.

Upgrading from Recreational to Professional

To upgrade, you must complete the school application again. IYT will evaluate:

  • Facilities and vessels for suitability.
  • Location (must not infringe on existing IYT professional school territories).
  • Availability of IYT-certified professional instructors.

If instructors are not already qualified at the professional level, they must submit instructor applications with required documentation.

If approved, IYT will:

  • Inspect the school.
  • Audit the first course (approval withdrawn if audit is not passed).

Costs:

  • All inspection and audit expenses are the responsibility of the school.
  • Typical costs range from $4,000–$6,000 per visit (including airfare, accommodation, daily expenses, and inspector fees).
  • Official inspections/audits occur every five years.
