Crossover Opportunities

Professional Crossover Opportunities

IYT accepts select qualifications from other maritime authorities for entry into, or equivalency with, the following certifications:

  • IYT Small Powerboat & RIB Master Certificate of Competency
  • IYT Master of Yachts (MOY) Professional Certifications

MCA (Maritime & Coastguard Agency, UK)

  • Officer of the Watch (OOW)
    • Holders may proceed directly to the IYT Master of Yachts Unlimited course.

AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority)

Important: All AMSA crossover candidates must be thoroughly assessed and have documentation submitted by an IYT partner school.

AMSA Coxswain Grade 1

  • Eligible for:
    • MCA Recognised IYT Small Powerboat & RIB Master CoC
    • IYT MOY Inshore <80 GT
    • IYT MOY Coastal/Mate

For MOY Inshore <80 GT:

For MOY Coastal/Mate:

  • Must complete:
    • IYT Business & Maritime Law eLearning course
    • No need for IYT Maritime Emergencies course (already covered)
    • Provide proof of:
      • 25 days and 800 miles at sea
      • 2 days as watch leader/skipper
      • 12 hours underway on watch at night
    • Hold full STCW basic training (not RYA First Aid/Sea Survival), revalidated as necessary
    • Hold a valid medical fitness certificate performed within the last two years from the time the certificate is being issued

Additional Crossover Option:

AMSA Master <24m Near Coastal (formerly Master 5)

  • Eligible for: IYT Master of Yachts Limited

Requirements:

  • Complete IYT Business & Maritime Law eLearning course
  • Provide proof of:
    • 3000 nautical miles
    • 50 days at sea
    • 30 night-hours on watch while underway
  • Hold full STCW basic training (not RYA First Aid/Sea Survival), revalidated as necessary
  • Hold a valid medical fitness certificate performed within the last two years from the time the certificate is being issued

AMSA Master <45m NC or Master <35m NC (formerly Master 4)

RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Crossover

  • As of October 23, 2017, the following are no longer accepted for crossover:
    • RYA Yachtmaster Offshore for entry into IYT MOY Unlimited
    • RYA Offshore Theory Completion for entry into IYT MOY Limited Practical Course
