Professional Crossover Opportunities
Below is an outline of the certifications that IYT will accept either as entry into or equivalent to IYT Small Powerboat & RIB Master Certificate of Competency and Master of Yachts (MOY) Professional Certification.
MCA (MARITIME & COASTGUARD AGENCY OF GREAT BRITAIN) OOW (OFFICER OF THE WATCH)
Holders of this certificate may proceed directly to the IYT MOY Unlimited course.
AMSA (AUSTRALIAN MARITIME SAFETY AUTHORITY)
IMPORTANT: Candidates wishing to crossover from the AMSA certifications listed below must be assessed thoroughly and documentation thoroughly reviewed and submitted to IYT for Master of Yachts Certification by an Australian RTO school. Currently, this is limited to Superyacht Crew Academy/Newport
AMSA Coxswain Grade 1
Holders of this certificate may obtain the MCA Recognised Small Powerboat & RIB Master Certificate of Competency.
If the holder of the Small Powerboat & RIB Master CoC via crossover meets the requirements outlined by the UNECE to gain the International Certificate of Competency (ICC) regarding citizenship or residency they may receive the MCA Recognised IYT ICC <10M Power Coastal. Please refer to this page of our website for details regarding the ICC.
Holders of this certificate may obtain the MOY Inshore <80 gt certificate.
Candidates must:
- Successfully complete the IYT Business & Maritime Law E-Learning course.
- Note that candidate does not need the IYT Maritime Emergencies course as it has already been covered/certified in the Australian Coxswain course.
Holders of this certificate may obtain the MOY Coastal/Mate certificate.
Candidates must:
- Successfully complete the IYT Business & Maritime Law E-Learning course.
- Note that candidate does not need the IYT Maritime Emergencies course as it has already been covered/certified in the Australian Coxswain course.
- Candidates must provide documented proof of 25 days and 800 miles at sea including two days as watch leader/skipper and 12 hours underway on watch at night.
- Hold the full STCW basic training modules (not the RYA First Aid and Sea Survival) revalidated as necessary.
- Have a current medical fitness certificate.
AMSA Master less than 24m Near Coastal (Master <24m NC) – valid unrestricted – previously referred to as Master 5
Holders of this certificate may obtain a MOY Limited certificate.
Candidates must:
- Successfully complete the IYT Business & Maritime Law E-Learning course.
- Have completed 30-night-hours ON WATCH while underway.
- Provide proof of 3000 nm and 50 days at sea.
- Hold the full STCW basic training modules (not the RYA First Aid and Sea Survival) revalidated as necessary.
- Have a current medical fitness certificate.

AMSA Master less than 35m Near Coastal (Master <35m NC) – valid unrestricted – previously referred to as Master 4
Holders of this certificate may proceed to the IYT MOY Unlimited course.
Currently, the crossovers from AMSA Qualifications are limited to Superyacht Crew Academy/Newport.
RYA (ROYAL YACHTING ASSOCIATION) CROSSOVER
As of October 23, 2017 – We no longer offer the RYA Offshore crossover for eligibility to take IYT’s Master of Yachts Unlimited Course.
As of October 23, 2017 – We no longer offer the RYA Offshore Theory Course Completion for eligibility to take the IYT Master of Yachts Limited Practical Course.
