Two routes in
Find out which one
you are before you apply
Recreational and professional partnerships are different commitments. Most schools start recreational and add professional courses later.
Route A
Recreational School
For schools teaching sailing, powerboating and the International Certificate of Competency to the general public.
What you need
At least one IYT registered instructor, suitable vessels, and a base your students can reach.
Approval process
Document review. No on site inspection required to start.
Time to first course
Weeks, not months.
Route B
Professional School
For schools delivering MCA recognised Master of Yachts and commercial superyacht crew qualifications.
What you need
Qualified instructors, approved examiners, compliant facilities and vessels, and documented procedures that meet our quality system.
Approval process
On site inspection before approval, then periodic audits. We tell you what the inspector checks in advance.
Time to first course
Several months. This is a serious undertaking and we would rather you knew that now. Your first course will be audited in person.

The software to run
Your school is included
Most certification bodies hand you a syllabus and leave you to manage bookings in a spreadsheet. We built you a system instead, and it is free to every partner school.
No setup fee, no monthly subscription, no minimum. We are paid a small percentage only when a student books and pays through the platform. If you take payment offline, it costs you nothing.
Publish your course schedule
Build courses and packages once, set dates and seats, and let students book online.
Take payment in your currency
Card payments settle straight to your own account. Offline payment mode is there for regions where cards are not the norm.
Collect documents before arrival
Set prerequisites per course. Students upload passports, medicals and prior certificates. You approve or reject with one click.
Assign instructors to courses
Instructors will automatically be sent a course manifest one week before the course begins, so they know who they’re teaching.

Being an IYT partner school means offering certifications that are respected worldwide. The global strength of the IYT brand attracts students to the Maritime School of the West Indies in St. Maarten, from as far as Singapore, Hawaii, Canada, and South Africa.

Schools in the network
Independent businesses,
Not franchises
Partner schools keep their own name, their own boats and their own pricing.
School Membership
An annual fee to hold partner school status, be listed on iytworld.com, and order certificates. Priced by region.
Instructor Registration
Each instructor is certified and holds an annual membership. The cost depends on the range of courses they are approved to teach.
Certificates
Ordered and paid for online, per student, as you issue them. Photo certificates with security features. Shipping is quoted at the point of order.
Inspection and audit
Professional schools are inspected before approval and audited periodically after. Cost varies with your location and the inspector’s travel. We quote it before you commit, and we group regional visits to keep it down.
What you will not pay for
The booking platform, course material updates, or a share of your course revenue. You set your own course prices, and IYT does not take a cut of what you charge your students.
Before
You Ask
No. Course materials are developed in English, but we encourage you to teach in the language your students think in. Several courses are available in multiple languages.
In most cases yes. The one exception is that we do not partner with schools affiliated with the International Sailing Schools Association.
You do. IYT does not set, approve or take a percentage of your course fees. You price for your market and your season.
Recreational schools are audited on a light periodic cycle. Professional schools are audited more regularly because their certifications carry government recognition. We group visits regionally so the cost is shared rather than carried by one school.
You are adding, not switching. Most schools keep running their existing courses while they register instructors and get their first IYT courses on the schedule.
