RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Crossover Opportunity

Below is an outline of the certifications that IYT will accept either as entry into, or equivalent to, the IYT Master of Yachts (MOY) Professional Certification.

For those students who hold the RYA Offshore you are eligible to take IYT’s Master of Yachts Unlimited Course.

Students must have the following;

  • Hold the RYA Offshore - Commercially endorsed and valid
  • Hold the full STCW basic training modules (not the RYA First Aid and Sea Survival) revalidated as necessary
  • Successfully complete the IYT General Maritime Law E-Learning course
  • Successfully complete an Assessment with an IYT Approved MOY School, by an IYT MOY Instructor. This assessment will cover practical examination competencies and an oral examination
  • Have a current medical fitness certificate
  • Successfully complete the MOY Unlimited course and examinations.

For those students who hold the RYA Offshore “Theory Course Completion certificate” and wish to take the IYT Master of Yachts practical course.

Students must have the following;

  • Hold RYA Offshore Theory course completion certificate
  • Successfully complete the crossover IYT Theory examination (either with or without a refresher course)
  • Hold the full STCW basic training modules (not the RYA First Aid and Sea Survival) revalidated as necessary
  • Successfully complete the IYT General Maritime Law E-Learning course
  • Successfully complete the IYT Master of Yachts (Limited) Practical course and examination.

MCA (Maritime & Coastguard Agency Of Great Britain)

OOW (Officer Of The Watch) With Command Endorsement

Holders of this certificate may proceed directly to the IYT Master of Yachts Unlimited course.

AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority)

AMSA Master 4

Holders of this certificate may proceed to the IYT Master of Yachts Unlimited course.

AMSA Coxswain Grade 1

Holders of this certificate may obtain the Master of Yachts Inshore 80 gt certificate.

Students must:

  • Successfully complete the IYT General Maritime Law E-Learning course

Please note that students do not need the Maritime Emergencies course as it has already been covered/certified in the Australian Coxswain course.

Holders of this certificate may obtain the MOY Coastal certificate.

AMSA Master 5

Holders of this certificate may obtain a Master of Yachts 200 ton Limited certificate.

Students must:

  • Successfully complete the IYT General Maritime Law E-Learning course
  • Have completed 30 night hours ON WATCH while underway
  • Hold the full STCW basic training modules (not the RYA First Aid and Sea Survival) revalidated as necessary
  • Have a current medical fitness certificate
