IYT has offered a Dive Boat Training scheme since 2014. After a thorough review of prior course materials and dive boat certifications as well as having discussions with schools that offer dive boat handling courses, IYT has concluded that the following existing IYT courses meet the needs for training dive instructors to operate dive vessels.
For dive vessels <15 meters, the IYT MCA Recognised Small Powerboat & RIB Master should be taught.
- After having successfully completed this training the candidate will be awarded the IYT/MCA Small Powerboat & RIB Master Certificate of Competency.
- By holding the IYT/MCA Small Powerboat & RIB Master CoC, the candidate is also eligible to receive the IYT MCA Recognised ICC <10 Meter Power Certificate of Competence.
- Theory and practical training may be completed at the school’s physical location, OR
- The theory may be completed online through IYT’s eLearning platform. Students then complete the practical training and examination at the school’s physical location.
For dive vessels <24 meters, the IYT International Crew & IYT International Flotilla/Bareboat Skipper course should be taught.
- After having successfully completed this training the candidate will be awarded an IYT Flotilla Skipper Power or IYT Bareboat Skipper Power Certificate of Competency. Whether one receives Flotilla or Bareboat Skipper depends on experience and sea time. See the course descriptions for more detail.
- By holding the IYT Flotilla Skipper Power or IYT Bareboat Skipper Power, the candidate is eligible to receive the IYT MCA Recognised ICC <24 Meter Power Certificate of Competence.
- Theory and practical training may be completed at the school’s physical location, OR
- The theory may be completed online through IYT’s eLearning platform. Students then complete the practical training and examination at the school’s physical location.
