The IYT Diveboat Training Standards

IYT Worldwide offers one of the only PADI approved Diveboat training programs in the world.

The objective for the new Diveboat trianing courses and certifications is to provide an industry wide standard for the professional dive industry. We have been asked by the top dive training facilities in the world to provide certification for Diveboat Crew, Diveboat Mate and Diveboat Master.

The programme and course development has taken place with input and support of the following organisations:

  • PADI the Professional Association of Diving Instructors
  • The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (Australia)
  • Dept.of Employment & Industrial Relations/ Workplace Health and Safety, Queensland Govt.
  • RAID Dive Training

Accreditation

While these courses are diveboat specific, they contain the necessary curriculum for operators to obtain various certificates of competency (COCs) issued by IYT which are approved by the  British Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and other global nautical regulators. The MCA boating qualifications are the most internationally recognised qualifications in the world and have become the de facto global standard.

These courses are by no means meant to replace any certification or licensing that may be required (by law) in the various flag state maritime jurisdictions worldwide.

Cruise Lines & Tours

When a cruise line or major tour operator decides where they are going to book their clients for diving, they must carefully consider that the services provided have the highest quality of safety and customer service. There is liability associated with how their customers are treated which results in a high level of scrutiny.

The IYT Diveboat Certifications provide a framework of accreditation for authorized service providers for diveboat services.

The responsibility to ensure that the diveboat service provider is competent falls into the jurisdiction of the IYT Diveboat Certifications. By demanding that service providers hold this qualification, Cruise Lines and Tour Operators significantly reduce their liability. Requiring that diveboat service providers have the IYT qualifications provides protection and confidence in the safety and quality of serviced endorsed.

Students

Although the Diveboat courses are specific to the Diveboat industry, the Diveboat courses contain individual course qualifications that are part of the overall IYT programme and common throughout other IYT courses such as international Crew, International Bareboat Skipper, Small Powerboat & RIB Master, ICC, VHF-SRC Radio Communications, Inshore Master & Master of Yachts Coastal. Those qualifying under the Diveboat courses will also receive Diveboat Mate/Crew and Master qualifications as appropriate.

Instructors

Instructors

Similar to other IYT Instructor qualifications once certain requirements have been met there is an opportunity to teach Diveboat Mate/Crew and Master courses. For many this opens up another opportunity and combines two amazing recreational activities. What is significant to the dive industry is the new career path for dive instructors who find themselves spending more and more time helping manage the vessel. The logical progress can result in moving up to Master of Yacht and a future career the yacht industry where dive qualifications are a sought after trait.

Schools

With the trend in our industry for greater safety and regulation there is the need for professional schools to instruct in new areas. Accommodating dive industry needs with the yacht training world just makes good sense. As Diveboats certify their crews there is also the benefit of improving operational costs as certified crew and skippers help reduce risk and liability.
